Description

Step into the vibrant world of psychedelic music with the original Bill Graham concert poster, a captivating artifact advertising The Yardbirds and the Doors playing side by side at the Fillmore Auditorium from 10/25-30, 1967. Designed by visionary artist Bonnie MacLean, this poster showcases her exceptional talent and unique artistic style.

At the heart of the artwork lies a mesmerizing image—a stylized drawing of a human face accompanied by a bird with a magnificent peacock's tail. MacLean's exceptional craftsmanship breathes life into this composition, epitomizing the psychedelic era. The poster is widely hailed as one of the finest examples of psychedelic artistry, its distinctive color palette capturing attention and commanding the viewer's gaze. MacLean's mastery lies in her ability to employ colors that are subtly nuanced yet undeniably captivating.

What adds an intriguing dimension to this piece is its historical context. Bonnie MacLean, newlywed to none other than Bill Graham, designed this poster about six weeks before the shows took place. Formerly Graham's secretary, MacLean's talent blossomed as she transitioned into the world of poster art. The deep connection between the artist and the subject matter infuses the poster with an added layer of significance.

This concert poster is an original 2nd printing that sports the same graphics as the 1st. It's primary distinction is actually a minute blue printer mark on the peacocks white tail feather! How's that for a treasure hunt.

Condition: Very Good. Age appropriate toning and fading. Small pinholes in each corner and in 3 areas of upper text from previous hanging. Minor border wear and corner creasing. Light pen-like printer blemish in center of graphic. Two minor water dots in lower half of face and very faint white blemishes in lower half of peacock feathers. Minute paper loss on back of poster from hanging tape removal that has no effect on overall image. Please use zoom feature to get a better understanding of overall conditon.

We us a widely recognized 6 scale system to grade our posters.

  • MINT - A poster in mint condition looks like it just came off of the press. It will have no blemishes or defects of any kind. It can be folded or rolled, depending on the original packing method (most movie posters were sent folded).
  • NEAR MINT - A poster in near mint condition may have minor imperfections in the border only. The artwork is in excellent condition with no blemishes whatsoever.
  • VERY GOOD - A poster in very good condition may have blemishes in the border and up to approximately one inch of the poster's artwork. In general, a poster in very good condition may show some wear and often will project a subtle classic vintage vibe without detracting from the artwork.
  • GOOD - A poster in good condition may have tears or small holes that measure no larger than a quarter on the outer edges of the poster's artwork. Pieces of the border may be torn or missing or have holes; there may be mild bleed-through in the outer area of the artwork; there may be mild fading. In general, a poster in good condition will have minor blemishes around the border and into the outer edges of the artwork. The major area of the artwork will be clear of any blemishes. Some people actually prefer this type of poster, which definitely shows some age and character.
  • FAIR - A poster in fair condition may have major blemishes that directly affect the artwork of the poster. The poster is recognizable and the artwork is primarily intact. A poster in fair condition can benefit from professional restoration.
